During PAN 2024 Gallery Helga Hofman will present the duo exhibition ‘ Portraits of the Landscape’ . Galerie Helga Hofman will pay tribute to Jan Cremer (1940-2024). The renowned dutch painter and writer, who sadly passed away this year.
The exhibition features oil paintings and ceramics of Jan Cremer’s landscapes from various periods, combined with portrait sculptures by his son, the sculptor Ivan Cremer.
As an homage, Ivan Cremer enters into dialogue with his father’s works, the fierce landscapes, and seascapes of memory.
Material plays the leading role in the work of father and son. While Jan Cremer creates a relief on the surface of the painting, causing the works to burst through the wall, Ivan Cremer’s sculptures take you to the place of the material in his series titled “Portraits of the Landscape.”
“It is the greatest honour to exhibit alongside my father’s works. Now that I can no longer engage in dialogue with him in person, I am compelled to do so with his legacy of words, color, and matter. This exhibition is a convergence of our worlds, where material takes center stage.”
Ivan also presents the portrait “Father.” This 2020 sculpture was originally a gift from Ivan for his father’s 80th birthday and has been cast in bronze in a limited edition for this occasion.
The upcoming exhibition “Portraits of the Landscape” by Galerie Helga Hofman will take place during PAN Amsterdam from November 24 to December 1.
